Dallas proclaims May 3rd Free Comic Book Day in a Dallas in honor of CAPE.
For the third year in a row, the city of Dallas proclaims the first weekend in May Free Comic Book Day in honor of CAPE, the comic and pop-culture expo. CAPE 4 (www.capeday.com) takes place on Saturday May 3rd at Craddock Park from 10am-6pm in the heart of Dallas. This festival of comic and comic art includes more than 80 comic book writers and artists for a free afternoon in the park. With several thousand attendees and over seven thousand free comics, CAPE has grown to be the worlds largest Free Comic Book Day event.
Its an incredible honor for my hometown to recognize my work and the work of my peers while we reach out to the community for CAPE, said Scott Kurtz, CAPE host and creator of the web strip PVP.
Kurtz will also be celebrating the 10th anniversary of his web strip PVP at CAPE. The marriage of the two prominent PVP characters will be marked at the event by a wedding guests registry book. I would like to invite all of my fans and the CAPE attendees to sign the guest book for Brent and Jade, said Kurtz.
This years list of CAPE guest comic book artists and writers includes the new additions Daniel Way, (Wolverine Origins and Ghost Rider) and Andy Kuhn (Firebreather and Marvel Team-Up). They join industry giants Mark Waid, Chynna Clugston, Robert Kirkman, Greg Pak, Jason Pearson, Gail Simone and David Mack. With over 80 guests (including local talented customizer Cason Pilliod), CAPE! just keeps getting bigger and bigger! For a complete list of guests and to view the proclamation go to www.capeday.com.

Time
to drop in with a few new customs! Some of these have been
seen, others have been lying on my desk for a year now, waiting
to be finished. Given the presence of Little Thumper, my time
is at a premium. As Thumper develops more independence, I
should have a little more time for customs. Until then, please
visit the gallery
to view several newly finished projects, including the completion
of my "Public Enemies" teams and an amazing Kalibak
sculpt.
 In
related news, I wanted to share these photos of a fantastic
"Savage Time" Batman made by the talented and prolific
Stew.
I bought this from Stew via eBay. I see hundreds of customs
on eBay every year. Most are garbage. Some are inspirational.
But I rarely see one I'd want to purchase and not make myself.
It seems I finally found the exception, and I have Stew to thank.
Check out these two photos, then visit Stew's
gallery.
Finally,
I wanted to remind you locals of the Dallas area that CAPE
is once more upon us! This year it will be held May 3rd in its
new location of Craddock Park, just down the street from the
(also new) location of the ever-lovin' Zeus. Check out the official
website for details. Once again, I'll be in attendance with
customs in tow, ready to spread the good word about the hobby. |

Just
to prove I haven't fallen off the face of the Earth, I present
to you two new customs: animated Felix
Faust and a 6-inch scale Soranik
Natu (Green Lantern)! There are plenty more to come, but
right now Little
Thumper is taking priority. |
 |
| Congratulations
to the Custom Coalition! The renowned
code of ethics for customizers was just mentioned in this
article by Wired.com. (It seems customizing is attracting even
more mainstream press!) I'm proud of the CC, both for what it
represents and for becoming a stalwart part of our community.

Casimir and Inanimate Objects were recently named "Best
Action Figures" by D
Magazine. This is a huge honor, and I am very proud
on behalf of my creations, and the hobby in general. This may
be the first recognition of customizing action figures by the
mainstream press. Read the
details. |

| At
long last, I present to you... Lanam
Nicholas Pilliod! Our first child was born Saturday, June
16th, at 6:09 p.m. He was 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and 20 inches
long. Since his arrival, he's been an absolute delight. He
is the center of our world.
Does this
mean I'm finsihed with customs? Absolutely not! I have several
sitting on ym workbench now, just waiting for final sculptural
details or paint. But I will be taking a hiatus for a bit
while Lanam, the Violist and I all learn how to live together.
Once we're settled, I'll be back in the swing of things with
some exciting new pieces. Until then, I'm going to enjoy being
a new dad. |
